These characters feel very well thought out and realistic. They are multi-layered and the author shows a sophisticated understanding of the psychology of familial relationships. Right there, that puts this book above the majority of romances published today. You also get interesting and thoughtful period detail, a clever mystery (the solution is both unexpected - although there are small hints leading up to it - and believable), and lots of sexual tension. I read it on Kindle, so I can't say exactly, but the book seems to be a bit longer than the usual length of a Liz Carlyle book. Given that the story does not have the slapped together and flat feeling of so many romance novels today*, I think she was really engaged with this story, and it shows. As a long-time fan (I first read one of her books in, I think, 2001), I'm very happy!

*The demanding publishing schedule that has evolved in the romance genre over the last decade or so that (apparently) requires authors to put out a book or more per year makes it pretty hard for them to maintain high standards and avoid burnout.

A Bride by Moonlight MacLachlan Family Friends Liz Carlyle 9780062100283 Books Reviews

The hero and heroine were both unusual people who became more likeable and real as the story progressed. The villain was a shock. Love scenes were very well written.
Argh this book is so romantic. Royden Napier is probably one of the most alluring heroes I have ever read. Maximilian de Rohan (No True Gentleman is still numero uno however).....
I found the secondary characters hard to keep track of at first. But there was a plot, which I certainly appreciate. Had a better 2nd half than 1st half.
(What I'd really like to find are some romances without the multi pages of sex scenes but not Christian / religious romances. Anyone?)
This book is a sequel but it does stand on it's own and also makes you want to read the book before it..She is an excellent writer with good stories and i am never bored with her books.. I would encourage any one to read her books that are interested in Historical Romance..She is one of the best in her field...
I loved how Lisette, soft on the inside but determined and hard on the outside, decides that someone will pay for her loss. She does tend to get herself in some fixes however. Her determination lands her in Scotland Yard in front of the Inspector. They both feel a tug but refuse to act on it. Through convoluted situations they end up face to face again. Had me in suspense throughout.
If you love a good mystery, this novel has a great one. I personally love the strong intelligent hero's. My only complaint was that the protagonists took too long to decide they were meant for each other. Otherwise excellent novel.
This is different from the other books in the series because both the hero and the heroine do not have supernatural powers, which I Love very much since I am not really a big fan of the supernatural genre. Liz Carlyle is a master storyteller. Once you start this book, you will not be able to put it down. This is the BEST in the series so far, and you can read it as a stand alone.
