First of all, let me say that I love reading vampire novels and have read a ton of them. But, this one just didn't really grab me and make me love it.

Shawna is a half-vampire/half-witch, trying to stay hidden from her vampire "prince" father. Somehow, two different men learn of her and try to keep her safe. One is a vampire named Damon and the other is an Immortal named Chad. Chad wants to use Shawna as bait to draw out her father so that he can kill him.

The story was very slow, with lots of unreasonable and unexplained things along the way. I never really understood how Damon came into the picture. Shawna was supposedly a very powerful person all her own, but we are never really shown her strength. Instead, she is mostly an aggravating person who just goes off without a thought to her own safety.

The beginning of the book was interesting because it talked about Vlad Dracula (although it wasn't very accurate historically). However, this prologue was never really tied into the rest of the book.

Also, the narrator spoke so slowly that I had to speed up my device in order to make myself listen to the book. If I had listened at normal speed, I would probably have fallen asleep.

All in all, not a horrible book, but not a great book. I will probably give Ms. Conn another chance to win me over, but I would never listen to or read this book again.

Charming setting in Scotland provides a great background for the story. I liked the plot, characters, and the light Dracula was cast in. Chad was sweet, witty, strong and arrogant. But hot, lol. Shawna, so strong and determined to be independent still showed her vulnerable side, which is refreshing for a strong female character. I would've given 5 stars but for a few issues. I felt like Shawna should've been more bite and less bark, and I think she should've been able to train more with Chad the one session. Still a good book and worth the read!
I've been so busy with real life but I finally got a chance to read Shadowlove and I wish I had found time to read it earlier because its amazingly yummy!
Shawna is our lovely heroine who lives in New York City. She's a special girl as she's half vampire and half white witch. She's never drank human blood before and survives off of pig blood (I know gross, but she's not a killer and Vampires in this series tend to let their blood lust overtake them, killing their victims) so yeah animals blood is kind of gross but you have to admire the determination of someone like that, willing to give up human blood.

Her mom died when she was just a baby... her vampire father tried to turn her but the mother was a white witch... she managed to escape when she realized the vampire wanted to keep her and her parents (white magic folks) nurtured her back to health. However the diseased blood of the vampire went against her white magic and her white magic fought the bad blood but soon after having Shawna she dies and Shawna is raised by her loving grandparents who've taught her how to keep her safe.

Then we have the hero of the story Chad, who's kind of a cocky, sexy a** and keeps managing to find Shawna and he openly admits he wants to use her as bait against her real father.. you see Shawna's real father doesn't know he has a daughter, but he finds out and Shawna separates from her grandparents to keep them safe, while she keeps running/setting traps in new places... the thing is... Chad keeps getting through her traps and doing things that shouldn't be possible....

Shawna leaves New York and goes to hide in Scotland... the owner is a bit off but cute/quiet and she's happy in her little cottage... though some kind of creature made of energy keeps trying to kill her....

I don't want to say too much because it would give the story away... Let's just say this is a nice spicy paranormal romance with a strong female heroine, a gorgeous alpha infuriating at times male, a psycho deranged father and some cool paranormal mixes like witches, fae powers, demons, vampires (good and bad). I really loved the story and that is why its 830 in the morning and I just finished reading...after staying up to read instead of going to sleep like a good girl LOL!

Read the book, share the book, like the tags in the story... Claudy is offering this one for free right now and even the checking of tags and liking the book (near the top where it has the facebook like) really helps the authors out and I figure if an author is offering me a free story its the least I can do... (reviews are good too! Even a sentence or two helps your authors) )
Shawna is part white witch/part vampire, and her cruel vampire father, Pentim, is trying to find her. Raised by her grandparents after her mom’s death, Shawna is on the run while her witch grandmother and wizard grandfather are in hiding.
Chad is an immortal with a direct family line to Dracula. He has a vendetta against Pentim and plans to use Shawna as bait, so he can kill her father. Chad knows all her secrets, and since she refuses to help him, he harasses her until she breaks down and agrees.
Shawna is an interesting character. She’s strong, determined to survive and fight her evil father, and she protects the ones she cares for by staying away from them. She’s torn between lusting after Chad and keeping her distance from him. She’s both mad and happy when he kisses her, but then she’s mad and relieved when he ignores her.
Chad is arrogant, secretive, and controlling. I couldn’t connect with him. He refuses to answer Shawna’s questions and keeps her in the dark when her life is in danger. He expects her to trust and listen to him without explanations. Even though she’s a powerful witch, he doesn’t treat her like an equal and invades her privacy to the point of stalking.
The book is told in third person, mostly in Shawna’s POV, with some head-hopping. Chad, Pentim, and a few other characters occasionally have scenes in their POV with proper scene and chapter breaks. There is a lot of repetition (characters thinking and then saying the same thing again and again). The pacing is a little slow, especially in the flashback scenes.
I liked the overall plot that deals with Dracula’s history and Chad’s connection to him. There’s an interesting subplot about an electrical demon. Damon, Shawna’s vampire friend, is totally yummy. I enjoyed the story for the most part, but Chad’s controlling ways frustrated me.
